Meaningful

"Meaningful"

This word has often been used in our personal reflection whether it's in our life, our career, relationships etc. Honestly, it's quite a heavy question yet it weighs a lot in our life. Without meaning, we often fall apart quickly. It's also a word that causes conflicting thoughts–"Meaningful vs etc".

As a designer, I do see that oftentimes, the work we do, requires a balance between doing meaningful work but potentially being underpaid vs doing commercially-driven work. More like a passion vs earning for a living. Recently I took up a project that is on a personal request, I've enjoyed it so much. I did it with so much excitement from scratch; looked forward to it being put up.

This sense of achievement is what I felt that was missing out over the past few months; people might think why did I take it voluntarily. I guess I was more moved by the "purpose" behind this project. Some may find it hard to see how design could provide any direct tangible help to anyone who's the targeted audience for it. But deep down, I still believe it can still help "indirectly". Or sometimes just by being a part of the "good cause"; working together as a body.

As I am writing this, I was reminded of this verse:

"For the body does not consist of one member but of many."
—1 Corinthians 12:14

Might be a naive-thought of mine to feel excited over such little thing or picturing too much "rainbows". Hmm I mean, I guess that there's no right or wrong to this. Ultimately, it's what's deep down in your heart. Might also sound silly, but I've always hoped to see how my design could help people. Have not found a way yet, but in my 20s, still exploring the design route. Feel free to drop down any thought or idea if you've had any! :)

Sincerely
YJ
